The American soprano Emily Hindrichs holds degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Exeter and the New England Conservatory and completed her musical formation as a member of the Seattle Opera Young Artists Program and a Tanglewood Music Center Fellow. Hindrichs is a recipient of a Sullivan Foundation Award, the winner of the Les Azuriales Opera Competition in France, and earned a second place in the Washington International Competition.
In the season 2013/14, the young soprano joined the ensemble of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, performing Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte), Oscar (Un ballo in maschera, Le Feu (L’enfant et les sortilèges), the title role in Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol and Costanza in Riccardo Primo. In autumn 2013 she made her London concert debut at the Barbican Centre, singing Reinhold Glière’s Concerto for Coloratura Soprano and sang Königin der Nacht at the Opera Frankfurt. Her signature role Königin der Nacht has taken her to debuts with English National Opera, the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Seattle Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre, and New Orleans Opera. Role debuts in past seasons include Micaela in Carmen, Anne Trulove in The Rake’s Progress with Opéra Théâtre de St. Étienne in France, and Konstanze in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail with the Connecticut Early Music Festival.
As an active concert and recital artist, she recently sang with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, with the International Bachakademie Stuttgart under Helmuth Rilling, the American Symphony Orchestra in Carnegie Hall and the Seattle Symphony. With the beginning of the season 2015/16, Emily Hindrichs is a member of the ensemble of the Opera Cologne, where she is singing amongst others Musetta, Teresa, and Adela in the world premiere of Tree of Codes. Plans for the season 16-17 include amongst others her debuts as Cunégonde (Candide) and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), and guest appearances at the HELLERAU Tonlagen Festival and ACHT BRÜCKEN with Ensemble Musikfabrik.
