The Slovenian mezzo-soprano Tina Drole is engaged at the Cologne Opera, where she will be seen in the 2024/25 season as the 3rd Maid (Elektra), Mercedes (Carmen) and Nireno (Giulio Cesare), among others. In the following season, 2025/26, she will also take on the role of the 3rd Lady (The Magic Flute) and a Valkyrie in Wagner’s Die Walküre. In 2023, she made her debut at the Bavarian State Opera as Ursuline in Penderecki’s The Devils of Loudun under the direction of Vladimir Jurowski and performed as Mercedes (Carmen) at the open-air festival Oper Burg Gars.
In addition to her opera work, she is a sought-after song and concert singer.
Tina Drole is a prizewinner of several international competitions. In 2021 she was a finalist in the Brahms Competition and received the special prize for the most convincing interpretation of the contemporary compulsory song. In 2019 she won third prize at the 5th International Music Competition Triomphe de l’Art in Belgium.
She studied song interpretation with Christian Gerhaher and Gerold Huber at the University of Music and Theater Munich and completed her vocal training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (BA) and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (MA). At an early age she took on roles such as Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Annio and Sesto (La clemenza di Tito), Third Lady (The Magic Flute) and Tolomeo (Giulio Cesare) in the Schönbrunn Palace Theater in Vienna. She received important artistic inspiration from master classes with Brigitte Fassbaender, Margreet Honig, Edith Wiens and Helmut Deutsch.
